MASTICATING JUICERS - EFFICIENT AND QUIET OPERATION
Masticating Juicers or Cold Press Juicers
What is a Masticating Juicer? Well, masticating juicers have an auger and the auger crushes the fruits and vegetables after you put them into a feeder tube or chute. Then the masticating juicer pushes the crushed produce through a mesh or screen which produces juice and - left-over pulp. They do it without increasing the temperature of the produce, hence the name - "cold press juicers". The juice and pulp separate into two different holders so you can save the juice as it is now - or - as the container for the juice gets full during the juicing process, you can pour it into another jar or container you may want to keep it in. The pulp goes into a separate container so you can deal with that as you wish, either just throw away, or feed it to the birds or squirrels or save it for the garden to help fertilize.
Masticating juicers are also called a 'slow juicer'. So called because it rotates slowly as it runs around 80 to 90 RPM's. As a result, you will find it takes a bit longer to juice with a masticating juicer than it does with a centrifugal juicer. Also, you will need to cut the produce you choose to juice into smaller pieces than you would for a centrifugal juicer.
However, do not let the wording "slow speed" distract you from considering this type of juicer. It out-performs the centrifugal juicers when you measure the quantity of juice you get from your produce when you use a masticating juicer. Most serious juicers prefer the 'slow' juicer as it performs very well for both harder vegetables and softer ones. It even works on green leafy vegetables very well.
The juice you produce with a masticating juicer will stay fresh and full of nutrients, etc. for a longer time as there is minimum destruction of the enzymes and antioxidants due to the juicing temperature being so much lower than the high speed juicers. And, it is a good sign that these juicers work well when the serious juicers usually choose a slow juicer as their juicer of choice
